The Caithness Heritage Fair 2007
On Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th November 2007, Cinema For Thurso Group was in attendance at the CAITHNESS HERITAGE FAIR at the Assembly Rooms, Wick where we took the oportunity to promote "The Big Gig" film & music festival and show some of the various film things we do.
We screened some material from the 2007 Big Gig and had entry forms on hand for the 2008 event. A trailer showing some of the films coming up in our 2008 event was also screened along with new Big Gig 2008 tags.
Our display boards in the Mowat Room covered a variety of areas of our interests. Mainly the attention is on film making and cinema heritage including movie film preservation.
We handed out leaflets to get more film in for the next "Caithness At The Home Movies" and issued free replica Picture House back stalls tickets and cards with our various bebo groups. (see home page)
Publicity stills and commemorative prints from our archive were on sale.
An album full of old photos from our Picture House archive allowed visitors to see the old cinema as they remembered it. We also displayed our own graphic art in our logos.
We created special classic 1940s style cinema adverts in color and monochrome and a nice compilation photo of the cinema's front with elements of it's appearance over it's 85 years of service.
Above are two of the display sheets highlighting our work in film preservation and recording of cinema heritage.
On the left is the display sheet for "The Big Gig" 2008, basic but the entry form gives more information along with access to this website and our bebo* group. We also gave lots of verbal info about the event.
* 'bebo' is used with consent of bebo.com
Below are two displays for our main non-cinema heritage interests. We have been photographing these sites for over 20 years as they are not maitained but are of major archeological importance to Caithness.
Those familiar with our website will know that there are a few spelling mistakes for which there are a number of reasons of which none is our ability to spell. Our display sheets didn't escape this but when we went to make corrections could we find the errors? Nope! We can spell extremly well but we are very rushed to finish our pages so something has to give.
Don't forget to watch out for more details of "THE BIG GIG" film & music festival in 2008. We will be back at the Caithness Heritage Fair when it returns in 2009.
