THE BIG GIG- EVENT
Back To Home Page
In 2002 Cinema For Thurso Group was active in promoting the reserrection of a live music event (see picture below right). In 2004 the idea was still there and proposed to the board of directors of Caithness Arts via email naming it as "The Big Gig". This year we decided to use our property and launch "THE BIG GIG"   starting with our first film festival.
Above 3 posters using the same image. The first was for a Caithness Arts showcase event in 2004. The next 2 are the same for the live music event in 2006. Aparently it didn't stand out in black and white. Well we don't agree given our training in graphic design and 22 years experience advertising events and movies. Hell, we make movies- if we can't create a working graphic now...
The artwork for this years' event on the left. The programme was made up with movies from America and Scotland. Some films didn't make it into the programme but will be shown at the next Big Gig event. Above one of our members stands by the screen (hoping it won't fall). We would like it to be wider than 13ft so we can show CinemaScope movies properly but it is still a good size for the venue.
Above left: The Royal British Legion, Thurso branch. The venue doesn't have the height we'd like but it is a good venue and the staff are very helpful. The main hall seen here seats 150 on the floor and behind this shot is an additional raised seated area for another 80 so there is plenty room. Above right: A quick snap during the show with "Red Rock Blues" on the screen.
Above left: Nice screen shot of "Breakdance - No Stoppin" which is mainly 4:3 ratio having come from original VHS masters. The composite sequences made use of the wider screen to put multipul images on screen simultaneously. Looked real good and certainly brought back the 1980s feeling. Above right: Just before the lights go down for "Micro Trip". See you next year folks!
Don't forget, "THE BIG GIG" returns in 2008
